Ways to Organize Your Home on a Budget

December 12, 2023 by Jaime Leave a Comment

Can you organize your home if you don’t have a lot of money? Definitely! Here are creative ways to organize on a budget!

When I finally decided that my house needed some organization, I got a little overwhelmed thinking of what I’d need to buy to get organized.

I mean, you see all these homes on Instagram with pretty baskets and everything in its right place, and you start to think that your house needs to look the same way.

The good news is, you can organize really well without a lot of money! I’ve found some easy and cheap organization ideas for your home and my hope is that you’ll find something new to try.

Where to find cheap organization supplies

It can be easy to spend tons of money on all these fancy supplies. But your financial goals may not align with that! You can find budget-friendly organization tools at a lot of different places:

  • Dollar stores (Dollar Tree is my absolute favorite)
  • Thrift stores
  • Flea markets
  • A department store or grocery store like Target or Meijer

Tissue box for grocery bags

If you find yourself with a huge collection of grocery bags, keep them all in an old tissue box as a simple solution!

Put a trash can in each room

Every room will produce some amount of trash. Putting a trash can in each room means that the trash will actually go where it belongs instead of letting it sit on the floor.

Kitchen organization ideas

Drawer organizers

You don’t have to use organizers just for silverware! Use them to store spatulas, measuring spoons, or other small items and make good use of that space.

Shoe organizer

A clear shoe organizer can be hung over the pantry door to store snacks or other items you need to reach quickly. This creates extra space in your pantry!

Lazy Susan

A Lazy Susan is great for spice cabinets! Just rotate to find what you need instead of having to pull out all the bottles until you find what you need.

Shower rod under the sink

Need an easy way to store cleaning supplies? Attach a shower rod under the kitchen sink and hang the bottles from it.

Dry-erase board on fridge

I use one on my fridge to write the week’s meal plan. You could also use it for family notes or other important messages.

Cup hooks for coffee mugs

To save space in your kitchen cabinets, hang hooks on the wall right by your coffee machine for your mugs. This also creates space on your kitchen counter.

Soda can dispenser for fridge or pantry

You can use these dispensers for canned goods or other items, not just soda cans!

Magazine holder

A magazine holder can store plastic wrap and aluminum foil for easy access.

Basket for remotes

Are you always losing your remotes? Place a small basket on the table so they finally have a home.

A bathroom. To the left is a walk-in shower, in the middle is a small sink, and on the right is a toilet.

Shower caddies

A shower caddy can store all of your bathroom supplies, and can have multiple sections so other family members can have their own space.

Mesh net for bath toys

Store all those bath toys in a mesh net to keep them all in one spot when not in use!

Plastic bins

You can use small plastic bins to store things in your bathroom cabinet or drawers, like makeup or hair supplies. The drawers have such a small space, these little bins are a great way to fit what you need.

Door organizers

You can use over-the-door hooks or shoe organizers to hang headbands, scarves, or any other items to free up some closet space.

Pop-up hamper

If your kids have lots of stuffed animals, a simple pop-up hamper can be used as a storage space. A corner of the room would be a good place for this.

Jars for craft items

Old Mason jars or other jars can hold art and craft supplies!

Folding sheets

When you fold all of your sheet set, fold them small enough to fit inside one of the pillowcases. This helps save space so you can fit more in your linen closet.

Pill dispenser for jewelry

You can use a pill bottle to store small pieces of jewelry. This also helps keep them from getting mixed up and tangled!

Office organization ideas

Glass jars or tin cans

These can be used to store stationary or other office supplies like paper clips.

Toilet paper rolls for cords

Are you sick of your charging cords getting tangled? Roll them up and place them individually in a toilet paper roll to keep them all separated!
