Do you struggle with coming up with ADHD-friendly meals? Check out these 10 simple meals designed with your brain in mind!

What’s one thing that you absolutely struggle with when it comes to ADHD?

For many of us, it’s all things food.

The cooking, the planning, the cleaning up… it can get overwhelming.

And those recipes that have 20 ingredients and a mile-long list of instructions? No thanks.

My other site, No Getting Off This Train, is where I post all things food-related. I have meal planning tips, easy recipes, and more. And today I’m sharing ten of my recipes with you!

What Makes a Recipe ADHD-Friendly?

I don’t think there’s an exact definition, but here’s what I look for when it comes to ADHD-friendly recipes:

  • Few ingredients and steps: One of the symptoms of ADHD is executive dysfunction, where it’s hard to make decisions and determine what’s most important. This really helps with the overwhelm!
  • Less prep required: I don’t mind chopping up one or two things, but I can’t handle much more than that.
  • Healthy but easy: I like simple recipes that still have a good amount of nutrients in them. These keep my energy levels high and stabilize my blood sugar so I don’t crash.

How to make cooking easier

Even when you have those easy meals, cooking can still be overwhelming. Here are some cooking tips that help me:

  • Buy pre-chopped produce or do a little meal prep ahead of time
  • Get out all the ingredients before you start cooking
  • Keep “like” ingredients together in the pantry or fridge, to make them easier to find
  • Put on some music or your favorite podcast to make the time go faster. This is my favorite tip because this just makes these tasks more fun!
