Sweeping and mopping are some of my least-liked tasks… with number one being the bathrooms. It’s boring and I have to amp myself up to actually do it.
ADHD can make cleaning hard! That’s why I have to find easy methods to get the jobs done- whether it’s putting oft-used cleaning supplies right in front of me, or putting these tasks on a recurring to-do list.

My simple solution is storing my mops and brooms in the garage, hanging on hooks on a pegboard. Let me show you how I do it, as well as give you other tips on broom and mop storage ideas.
Things to consider
- Where’s the first place you would look? Because of ADHD, I forget about things if they’re not right in front of me. My broom and mop have to be easily seen AND reachable; otherwise I won’t feel like putting forth the effort to clean. Put them in the most obvious places!
- Maximize your floor space! Where is the best place to put your brooms and mops that will stay organized but not in your way? The corner of a room may not be the best option; they become part of the background.
Supplies you need

How to assemble
The first step is to hang your pegboard up on the wall. You’ll typically nail it into the wall, but use whatever method works best for you.

Next, slide the hooks through a few of the holes, leaving ample space between each one.

Then, slide your brooms, dust pans, and mops through the hooks and you’re ready to go!
As you can see, we also store our feather duster and fly swatters here. They’re within easy access and since they’re both associated with cleaning/freshening up the house, it makes sense for me to keep them there.
If you have other long-handled cleaning tools, they could easily hang here too!
What do you do with wet mops?
After I’m done mopping, I don’t hang up the mop right away. Hanging a wet, dripping mop can possibly lead to mold and other nasty complications.
I have a spinning mop bucket, which is so helpful for this. After I rinse out the mop, I’ll spin it a few times and leave it right there for an hour or so while the floor dries. By then, it’s not dripping anymore and it’s safe to hang back up again.
If you don’t have a spinning mop bucket, simply wring the mop dry after rinsing it out and let it hang on the hook. Make sure it’s at least a few inches above the ground and isn’t dripping anymore. Even better if it’s in a large space like a garage, where it has plenty of space to dry.

Other storage spaces
Every person’s house is different, so your method may look different from mine. Whether you’ve got a small apartment or a larger house, you can store brooms and mops! Here are some other options:
- Create a broom closet, maybe one that’s by your front door like the coat closet
- Turn your laundry room into a cleaning room or cleaning closet, keeping your essentials there
- Hang a tension rod and use hooks
- Place a stand-alone cabinet in your garage and hang your items in there
- Get a mop holder wall mount, designed specifically to hold these items
- Use an over the door organizer to save on wall space
Where do you keep the cleaning essentials?
Store cleaning supplies in a spot that makes sense for you and your house. I always fill my mop bucket in the kitchen sink, so my cleaning supplies are kept under the sink.
Another option is the laundry room. I keep my mop bucket on top of a cabinet in the laundry room, so it might also make sense to store cleaning items there.
This is definitely an easy and great way to keep myself organized without a lot of effort. And I’ve given you other broom storage ideas to help you out! How do you store your brooms and mops? Leave a comment and let me know!
